We all want to get the most out of our personal and work life every day. As the weather starts getting cooler and the days get shorter, it gets that much harder to get out of bed and start the day off right. The easy option is to hit snooze on that alarm and pretend the day isn’t happening, well not that early anyway!

Here are some tips I like to stick to to ensure a productive work day and week.

The key is planning, planning, planning!  This will help you form good habits that will help with productivity.

Developing a routine is the key; get yourself into a routine in your personal life and set yourself goals. Carry this on into your working day and you will have a productive working week.

1. Plan time on the weekend to do grocery shopping and prepare healthy food for the week’s lunches and dinners. Eating healthy will give you sustenance for each day and will help resist the temptation of going to food courts and buying junk food. This is not only costly but not good for the waistline as it is hard to resist the many comfort food choices.

2. Have your work clothes washed, ironed and ready to go for the week. This will eliminate getting home late and having to get out that dreaded ironing board or waste precious time in the morning.

3. Establish and stick to an exercise routine. I am a morning person so I like to get up first thing and go to the gym. That way it is done for the day and there are no excuses for not getting there after a stressful day at work. Do not make excuses when you wake up, have your gear ready and, as they say, just do it!

4. Stay hydrated. Drink a glass of warm water with lemon each morning and at least 2 litres of water throughout the day. Get a two litre bottle for your work area and make sure you finish it each day.

5. Plan your work week – prioritise to make time for this. Write down what you want to achieve for the week. I find writing a list of the most important things you need to achieve that day the night before is really helpful and gives clarity and focus around what is really important.

6. Get plenty of good quality sleep.

7. Start every day with a proper breakfast. Plan your routine to ensure you have time for this each morning.

8. Make your bed as soon as you wake up. This stops me from wanting to go back to bed and starts the productive day off.

9. Review every week when it is done. Actually, make a record of what went right and what didn’t go to plan. I share this with my manager along with what I plan to improve. This helps with planning my next week. We do this here through My Employee Life – Goals and Work log tool. This is available to anyone, click here for more information.

If you have any other tips I would love to hear them.
