I am writing this because I firmly believe in the above statement, especially in today’s day and age. There are far too many people in society who continue to judge and discriminate people based on opinion or first impression. ‘Never judge a book by its cover ‘is one of the most well known phrases in life today, however how many actually practice it? What defines a person is not their social economic class; not by which they school they attended; not how many dollars they have in the bank; not by what brand of jeans they wear. What defines a person is by showing real class and style in how they treat others. One moral I have firmly believed in from a relatively young age is to not judge people based on outside opinion.
Some of the most successful people in business have come from humble upbringings where they materially-speaking, did not have much and appreciated what little they had e.g. Sir Alan Sugar. Possessions were overtaken and superseded with an understanding that you have to work hard in life. What you put in is genuinely what you get out; basic fundamental morals and respect for others are instilled from an early age. It’s what identifies them as individuals and makes them unique and different.
In today’s day and age where there are so many distractions with focus on material wealth, people lose sight of what is important. People with real class and respect for others will genuinely be the ones that get ahead in life. Those who continually “look down” on others that may, in their eyes, be different, will and should struggle. Anger, frustration and pity are just some of the wasted negative energies that are expressed by people in life. In my opinion, they are merely trying to shelter or guard themselves from others getting too close to what makes them who they are.
In a relationship driven business, I feel these values should be at the core of everything we do.
Don’t be afraid, be proud and stand tall.
