The year 2018 has taught us a lot of things. Whether good or bad, we should not forget these lessons.

So, if you are still thinking of some things that you want to do or change this year, check out this list that might help you boost your career. If you already have a list, add some of these and see how it works for you.

1. No more bad habits

If you want to boost your career, you need to get rid of your bad habits. Some bad work habits include eating at your office desk and working overtime. These habits do not only affect your productivity and efficiency, but can add to stress and burnout. Make an effort to stop these bad habits so you can be happier, healthier and more productive at work.

2. Accept challenges

If you think that a certain job is too intimidating, have the courage to give it a go. Challenge yourself in completing a task – you might be surprised with the positive effect that it will give you.

3. Learn new skills

The New Year is always a good time to learn something new. Whether it be learning a new language, cooking or even driving, they will not only help you to improve your day to day living, but will broaden your horizons.

4. Improved soft skills

Consider improving your soft skills. According to LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner, soft skills are very important, and include conversation and personal interaction. It improves team relationships and collaboration.

5. Be more productive

If you think overworking is good for your career, think again. Overworking is not a sign of productivity. In fact, it is detrimental to your productivity levels. It can also affect your health and your relationship with your family. So, look at ways to improve your productively and avoid working overtime.

6. Try stress busting activities

Stress will always be a part of work. One way to control it is to exercise and spend time on the things that you love to do. Concentrate this year on being a healthier you and set yourself a goal of maybe hitting the gym two to three times a week.  Another way is to spend time on a hobby or something that makes you happy.

7. Do a digital detox

Using technology too much can affect your productivity and relationships with other people. Learn to switch off and communicate personally with other people. You’ll be surprised how communicating with real people (instead of a virtual one) can strengthen your relationship with them.

The beginning of another year is always a good time to plan for the year ahead to guide us throughout the year. By reflecting on the previous year, we can make plans that can improve our work life which in turn means a happier, healthier you.

Best wishes to you for a happy and successful 2019!
