Right now, it is as stressful as ever if you are looking for a new job. Unemployment is down and there are fewer jobs available. There is also the increase in interest rates making the housing market a tight squeeze. With that in mind, it can be difficult to stay positive while looking for a new role. There are a few things you should always do, like keeping your resume and LinkedIn profile updated etc. Here are some other important points to be considered when looking for your new role.
Remember your Strengths
This is important, especially after a rejection. It can be easy for a person to be stuck in the dumps and doubt that the next role will ever come along. Your strengths are the reason you will land a new role. When talking about strengths, this can be the skill that sets you apart. It can also be your personality, which could be half the battle when you get to the interview stage. If you remember the things that make you stand out, even after rejection, you can stay positive knowing that the right role will be right around the corner.
Set yourself an achievable goal.
When you are not working it can be very easy to lose that spark and be distracted. It’s also very easy to binge Netflix shows now you have the time to do so. Whilst it is important to have downtime, it could also be contagious, and you might struggle to get out of the Netflix black hole. My suggestion here is to set yourself an achievable goal, which could be applying for at least one job per day. If you do this, you will stay active and will keep you in a positive frame of mind seeing the small steps bringing you closer to your next role.
Research and Prepare.
This sounds simple enough, but worse than not landing a job, is landing a job for a company/industry that is not a good fit for yourself. This is why it is important to research the kind of role that interests you and prepare yourself for it. Preparing your resume and making it look appetizing highlights your strengths that a person in that position will possess. If you research and prepare yourself properly and yet still unsuccessful, you can hold your head high that you’ve done everything you could.
Talk to a recruiter.
I know what you must be thinking, the recruiter is telling me to talk to a recruiter, how convenient. But there is something that I have noticed in my five months as a recruiter, and that is how often a person interviews for one role, and then only weeks later, be placed for a different role. Once a recruiter has met you, they have an unappareled understanding of who you are and where you would fit in. It might only be a little thing, but it could be the differentiator for finding your next role.

The first few months in a new job are strange. I guess you walk into an environment where everyone basically understands how things work, and you’re the one trying to piece it together at the same time. You’re learning systems, figuring out who does what, remembering names, and at the same time trying to show why you are here and why you were […]
Starting a new job in a new industry gave me a sense of excitement, uncertainty and eagerness to learn. Coming into the role as a recruitment consultant at Optimum Consulting, my basic understanding of recruitment was “finding people a job”, and whilst that may be a very vague part of the job, I’ve quickly understood that there is much more to it. […]
Eight weeks ago, I started a new career in recruitment after 11 years as a legal assistant. What led me here was not a sudden epiphany. It was a nearly 12-month-long job search that allowed me to experience firsthand what candidates say is broken about the process. As a candidate, I felt invisible more times […]
Well, I am sure you are all glued to the TV watching the Australian Tennis Open or if you are one of the lucky ones and living in Melbourne, or have tickets you may have been to a game or two over the last couple of weeks. At first glance, recruitment might look more like […]
