Well, it’s the end of July, and we are now creeping towards to end of the year – It’s cold in the morning and dark when I get home at night – I feel like I am just going through the motions to keep the wheels turning.
I am sure we have all felt like this at one point in time throughout our working careers, and feeling stuck in a work funk can be really challenging. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel and there are a few simple tactics that can help you regain your “mojo” and motivation.
Assess yourself
I find that I need to recognise why this is. Is it a lack of challenges, stagnation, boredom or something bigger that may be personal? Once you assess this you can deal with it.
Create a list
I always start with a good old fashion “list” of the positives and negatives, and then from here, I set myself some goals which seem to help me refocus. These goals need to be clear, achievable and have a purpose.
Break your tasks into smaller steps
Sometimes you feel you are just going through the grind of work, same tasks / same days. So, the trick here is to break these tasks into smaller steps especially if you are feeling overwhelmed. This can make your workload appear less daunting and boost your confidence as you tick off each step.
Change your work environment
A big one for me recently was I changed where I sit in the office. I know this does not work for everyone but a simple change in your work environment can make a big difference. It could be as simple as rearranging your desk or adding a pot plant to make your space more personalised and inviting.

Take regular breaks
Remember to take regular breaks – some of us have very structured work schedules, so if this is the case make sure you get out of the office for a quick walk around the block or park for some fresh air – this does wonders. Everyone talks about mindfulness and for some of us this could be doing an exercise class during the day or meditating could work too. All of these ideas help reduce stress and improve your overall well-being.

Connect with colleagues
Maybe have lunch together or a drink after work. Also, celebrate achievements as this can really boost motivation.
Seek out new challenges
Finally, seek out a new challenge. Speak with your Manager or Supervisor about up and coming opportunities that could align with your interests and strengths. Sometimes a new challenge is enough to reinvigorate your enthusiasm for work.
If you set some boundaries around your work schedule/personal life this will do wonders for you. Remember, it’s normal to experience ups and downs at work, but with patience and taking some proactive steps, you can get your mojo back and enjoy your job again.

It’s that time of the year again where many of us are looking forward to a relaxing break over Christmas. Having time away from work gives me so much clarity with what I want to achieve for the year ahead after having a few weeks off. 2026 is going to be a big year, both […]
Once upon a time, the phone was something that rang on the kitchen wall. Today, it’s the first thing we touch in the morning, the last thing we check before bed at night, and it is the device that demands our attention thousands of times in between. We’ve become more connected than ever, but at […]
It is that time of year — the break is in sight, but there is still plenty to do! This is a wonderful opportunity to take a step back and make sure everything is in order from an HR perspective and plan ahead for 2026. Rather than tackling an exhaustive list, here are some top […]
Recruiting the right staff is one of the most critical — and difficult — tasks any organisation faces. A single hiring decision can ripple through a company quickly, influencing productivity, culture, and morale to name a few. Yet even the most seasoned recruiters and hiring managers fall prey to a subtle psychological trap that quietly […]
