As the year comes to an end and the holiday season begins, it’s great to say goodbye to the past 12 months with a work celebration but also taking a minute to stop and think about what we’ve achieved, and how to get ready for a successful and exciting new year ahead.
Reflecting on Achievements:
Before entering holiday mode, take a moment to look back on your accomplishments and milestones achieved throughout the year. Celebrate both personal and team success, acknowledging the hard work and dedication that has contributed to your year of success and progress. Acknowledging accomplishments does not only boost spirits but also creates a positive environment for the end of year celebrations.

Prioritising Tasks:
With the holiday season approaching, it is essential to prioritise tasks. Create a list of tasks that must be completed before the years end and focus on completing the tasks that contribute to your year-end goals. Assign duties if needed and communicate with your team to ensure a smooth transition into the holiday season.
Clearing the Workspace:
There is something satisfying about starting the Christmas season with a clean and organised workspace. Take a few minutes to tidy up your desk and organise your workstation. A tidy workspace does not only improve productivity, but also allows you to return to work in the new year with a fresh perspective.

Setting Realistic Goals:
While it is appealing to attempt to complete every task before the end of the year, it’s essential to set realistic goals. Identify the most important tasks that require attention and focus on completing them successfully. Be mindful of your time and energy, ensuring that you finish the year on a positive note without unnecessary stress.
Christmas Leave:
Organising Christmas leave can be stressful for the workplace, especially if your business remains open, but valuable communication is key. Inform your availability and any changed work hours to candidates, clients, and team members. This helps to create a supportive work environment, allowing everyone to plan accordingly and enjoy their well-earned break.

Embracing the Festive Spirit:
As work tasks may slow down or may not, it is still time to embrace the festive season. That could mean decorating the office, engaging in activities, or encouraging team members to share their holiday traditions. Creating a festive atmosphere also brings joy to everyone, as not everyone may celebrate in the same way as you do, therefore actively engaging everyone.
Planning for the New Year:
While celebrating in the holiday spirit, take a moment to outline your goals and expectations for the coming year. Reflect on lessons learned, areas for improvement, and personal and professional development. Setting clear intentions for the new year positions you for a strong start and a sense of purpose upon your return to work.
In conclusion, by reflecting on achievements, embracing the festive spirit, you can wrap up the year on a positive note, and step into the new year with new energy and enthusiasm.
Wishing you a happy holiday season and a successful start to the upcoming year!

Once upon a time, the phone was something that rang on the kitchen wall. Today, it’s the first thing we touch in the morning, the last thing we check before bed at night, and it is the device that demands our attention thousands of times in between. We’ve become more connected than ever, but at […]

Recruiting the right staff is one of the most critical — and difficult — tasks any organisation faces. A single hiring decision can ripple through a company quickly, influencing productivity, culture, and morale to name a few. Yet even the most seasoned recruiters and hiring managers fall prey to a subtle psychological trap that quietly […]
Recruitment myths… No one hires in December There is a “hidden” market of “secret” jobs only shared with a few What is true is that I personally don’t advertise. I have a network to look at, an extended network to ask for referrals and then I start headhunting. Am I operating some kind of covert […]
